Key Takeaways

  • Dibond printing offers a high-quality, durable alternative to traditional printing materials
  • Various printing processes and finishes allow for aesthetic customisation
  • Dibond board’s durability and weather resistance make it suitable for indoor and outdoor applications

Materials and Composition

Aluminium Composite Material (ACM)

Dibond board printing utilises Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) as the primary component. ACM is composed of two pre-painted sheets of 0.012″ (0.30mm) aluminium bonded to a core in a continuous extrusion process. Manufactured by 3A Composites GmbH, this material is known for its flatness and excellent printing capabilities. Dibond is ideal for digital and screen printing, providing a premium, weatherproof, smooth surface that ensures high-quality results.

The aluminium cover layers in Dibond are 0.3 mm thick, ensuring the durability and robustness of the printed substrates. This thickness is suitable for various applications, from photography and artistic printing to outdoor signage and graphic displays. Moreover, the aluminium composite sheet offers a superior surface that protects expensive digital and screen-printed graphics.

Latex Print Method

Our latex board printing method sets us apart in the industry. This advanced process provides scuff and fade-resistant results, ensuring the longevity and durability of our signs. Our high-quality Latex inks are resistant to UV light and fading from the sun, delivering a top-notch product.

Sustainability

In addition to outstanding quality and durability, we prioritise eco-friendliness in our business practices. Our Latex printing method is sustainable, utilising water-based, eco-friendly pigments that are gentle on the environment. Traditional UV printing methods often involve toxic inks, but our print method is water-based, so an eco-friendly print method.

Dibond Printing Processes and Finishes

Gloss and Matt Coatings

When printing on Dibond boards, there are two common finishes to choose from: gloss and matte. Each finish has its own unique set of benefits and can enhance the final print in different ways.

Gloss Finish Dibond Printing: Gloss coatings offer a high-shine finish that can emphasise the sharpness and brightness of the printed image. This finish is ideal for photographic prints and colourful artwork, as it can make colours appear more vivid and create a striking visual impact.

  • Benefits of a gloss finish:
    • Makes colours stand out
    • Enhances the sharpness of images

Matt Finish Dibond Printing: Matt coatings provide a smooth, non-reflective surface that can create a more subtle and sophisticated appearance. This finish is suitable for more intricate or detailed designs, as it can reduce glare and make it easier to view fine details.

  • Benefits of a matt finish:
    • Minimises glare and reflections
    • Softens sharp edges and lines

Both gloss and matte finishes have their unique selling points, so it’s important to consider the desired effect when choosing the right coating for a Dibond board print.

Durability and Weather Resistance

Dibond board printing offers a remarkable combination of durability and weather resistance, making it an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor signage. Composed of a lightweight polythene core sandwiched between two aluminium sheets, Dibond material is strong, robust, and built to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

One of the key advantages of Dibond is its exceptional weather resistance. The aluminium sheets provide a waterproof barrier, protecting the core from moisture and preventing warping or deterioration. Furthermore, Dibond signs are resistant to fading, ensuring that vibrant colours and clear visuals remain intact even when exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. This high level of weather resistance makes Dibond a top choice for outdoor use.

In addition to its weather-resistant properties, Dibond also boasts a Class A fire rating. This classification demonstrates the material’s ability to resist the spread of flames, enhancing safety for both indoor and outdoor installations. Coupled with other characteristics such as impact resistance, the Class A fire rating further underscores Dibond’s durability.

When it comes to longevity, Dibond board printing performs remarkably well. Indoor signs made from Dibond can last up to 10 years or more, while outdoor installations generally have a lifespan of around five years. This extended durability makes Dibond a cost-effective choice for various signage applications, offering peace of mind that signs will maintain their appearance and structural integrity for years to come.

Dibond Signage Applications

Dibond signs are popular in various industries due to their durability. Dibond signs are made from two pre-painted sheets of thin aluminium surrounding a polythene core, making them more robust and long-lasting than traditional aluminium signs.

Directional Signs

Dibond signs are a reliable choice for directional signage due to their sturdiness and longevity. They can effectively guide visitors and customers in various settings, such as shopping centres, parking lots, and office buildings. These signs help improve navigation and maintain an organised environment. Common uses for Dibond directional signs include:

  • Wayfinding signs
  • Parking lot signs
  • Office and lobby directories
  • Campus maps

Outdoor Exhibits and Displays

Dibond signage provides a durable and weather-resistant solution for outdoor exhibits and displays. These signs can withstand exposure to the elements, making them ideal for use in both temporary and permanent installations. They offer vibrant, full-colour prints and can be easily mounted or installed in various settings. Examples of outdoor Dibond exhibits and displays include:

  • Trade show and exhibition stands.
  • Exterior informational signs.
  • Point-of-purchase displays.
  • Promotional event signage.

Photography and Artwork

Buying banners in confidence

You can buy from Banner World with confidence. Your job will go through several checks before manufacture. Firstly when your job comes in, we check all your uploaded files and cross-reference each file against your order. At this point, if we see that artwork is incorrect or if there is a file missing we will contact you to request new artwork. Most of our banners and fabrics are manufactured at our large print factory in Europe. Our standard turnaround on items is 5-6 working days for delivery. Even though most of our ordering system has been automated, we still carry out several manual checks before processing your order. If at any point we have a question or a problem with your order you will be contacted before manufacturing.

Our processes

Please read the information below on how your order is processed. Each order goes through several checks before printing. Our file checking service is standard procedure on all orders. Checking your files means that you can place your order in confidence, knowing that we will check to make sure your order and corresponding artwork match and are correct. Anything we are not sure that we will contact you before proceeding.

What is Our Initial checking service?

When you place an online order, we will cross-reference your artwork against your order. At this point, we will check that the artwork sizes and file type match the order. We will make sure we have the correct number of artwork files for the job. At this stage, if anything appears to be incorrect, we will place the order on hold and contact you immediately.

How do we process your order?

Once we are happy with your order, we will then process it. We collate all the information for each job, including finishing and material type. The job information is then sent with your artwork to the pre-press department. Pre-press is where we will create and prepare your job for printing.

Our Pre Press and second checking service.

Pre-press refers to the stage before printing. Here your artwork is converted into the correct format for our machines and finishing processes. At this point, if something is spotted which isn’t correct or if there is a problem we will again contact you.

How do we print and track your order through the factory?

Your job is now batched together with other items on the same material. Each item has assigned to it a unique code. The code is used to track the order through our factory. The information is used to check the material, quantity and finishing information on the item. The order then goes through our print presses.

How do we finish your printed items?

Every job we produce is different to the next, whether it be size, material, shape or finishing. Your printed items will be finished as requested on your order. We automate as much of the finishing as possible, cutting down on labour costs and passing on the savings to you. The Prepress data is inputted into parts of our finishing equipment. Your graphics are now finished to your custom requirements. Each printed product is set up differently for each type of finishing process. A banner that has hem and eyelets will be manufactured and produced in a different way to a flag with a pole pocket.

How are your items packed?

We have now manufactured your items. The finishing pieces now move onto the packing department. At the packing stage, we collate your order. Items get checked off against the order using the order code system. The printed goods get wrapped and packed, ready for despatch.
